GREEN MACHINE BURGER AT THE ORGANIC GRILL: For another faux-burger deal, this East Village eatery offers one of the tastiest veggie burgers in town. The $12.99 Green Machine burger comes with your choice of vegan or dairy cheese, depending on your dietary restrictions; the rest of the Meat-Free MacDaddy is comprised of a large Portobello mushroom, a hunk of vegan pesto sauce, onions, lettuce, tomato, avocado, peppers and sprouts. This thing is a monster of herbivore proportions!
We love pumpkin and we can never get enough pumpkin pie this time of year. Lucky, we’ve got insider access to the best organic vegan pumpkin pie ever, and we are sharing the recipe with you! You won’t want to miss a bite, compliments of Julia Chebotar, owner and founder of New York City’s popular East Village vegan restaurant, Organic Grill.
You want to eat healthy, but you’re allergic to “health food.” Not a problem at this East Village café where locally grown produce and artisan ingredients make up dishes like black-bean-and-roasted-peppers quesadilla with cashew sour cream. Even the coffee is organic and shade-grown. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld
The Organic Grill focuses on “clean”, sustainable ingredients. Their entire menu is organic, vegan and dairy-free, but they offer the option of organic dairy cheese, organic eggs, and wild fish to suit a wider range of diners. Breakfast is obviously their specialty with several egg/tofu menu items plus an eclectic mix of pancakes and waffles, including gluten-free Slamcakes and a Waffle Breakfast Burger.
The crusted, roasted mushroom “burger” crackled with fine-ground cashews. It had the best flavor of the lot. Too bad the house piles on the kitchen sink. The good: an organic-grain seeded bun, pesto spread, aromatic alfalfa sprouts and sliced portobellos.
The Organic Grill offers both beer and sangria frozen into popsicles. Beer and Sangria Popsicles EAST VILLAGE — If you're after an ice-cold beer on a steamy hot day, it won't come any more frosty than in popsicle form. The Organic Grill on First Avenue near St. Mark's Place has begun freezing its organic beer and sangria and serving the frozen treats to customers. "I just had the idea because I never seen anyone sell beer popsicles or sangria popsicles before," owner Julia Chebotar, 25
At The Organic Grill, you’ll find delicious food made with sustainable ingredients. In other words, you’ll feel good while eating— and feel good about what you’re eating. Just about everything on the menu is plant-based, organic and vegan. If you’re the DIY-type, you’ll love the option to build your own burger: start with a roasted mushroom, black bean, or lentil patty, cover it with garlic aioli, guacamole, or cashew cream, add a fried egg, soy sausage, or caramelized onions.

When I’ve waited too long to eat, feel like I’m close to starvation and there is nothing fresh, healthy, organic or edible in my kitchen, my go-to choice for fast, organic food is Organic Grill on First Avenue in the East Village. I know that I can count on them for organic, mostly vegan, American fusion dishes that are prepared in a healthy, yet tasty way.
This hulking beaut is the East Village grill’s signature and for good reason. The roasted mushroom round is slathered with pesto spread on an Ezekiel bun and topped with a laundry list of fixings: roasted green peppers, guacamole, vegan cheese, caramelized onions and sprouts. Who said healthy and tasty were mutually exclusive?
The Organic Grill on First Avenue near St. Mark’s Place has begun freezing its organic beer and sangria and serving the frozen treats to customers. The owner Julia Chebotar had the idea because she’s never seen anyone sell beer popsicles or sangria popsicles before and her “aha” moment this summer that led the restaurant to start selling the popsicles. The Organic Grill, which serves mostly vegan and organic products for lunch, dinner and brunch, is a family-owned business that has been around
The Organic Grill is a reliable healthy spot in the East Village that ensures 99.9% of its ingredients clean and sustainable. Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine orders her lunch from this spot everyday, and favors the black bean burger, salmon with brown rice, or a salad with “20-something ingredients.”
